Paul Booth has been named as the new Master of Ceremonies as the overhaul of BDO officials gets underway.

The first of six new appointments sees Booth become Master of Ceremonies for all televised events, starting with the World Darts Trophy in his hometown of Blackburn later this month.

Booth takes over from Richard Ashdown, who resigned from his role as Master of Ceremonies last month after joining the BDO in 2013.

Ashdown was swiftly followed through the exit door by senior referees Anthony Dundas, Marco Meijer, Nick Rolls and Charlie Corstorphine - who all tendered their resignations within 24 hours.

BDO Chairman Des Jacklin claimed he had been ‘overwhelmed with the number of applications’ for the vacant positions and even suggested two "household PDC names" were among those being lined up in the new refereeing team.

Booth is the first new acquisition to be confirmed, having worked on the exhibition circuit alongside many of the sport's legendary players over the past decade.

Booth made his TV debut 11 years ago and has made regular appearances as MC of both boxing and athletics on BBC Sport, ITV Sport, Sky Sports and networks across the USA and Canada.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted to be offered and accept the role as MC with the BDO.

"After meeting with the Chairman, I'm over the moon to be part of the exciting times ahead.

"I'm looking forward to working alongside a number of players with whom I've become friends over the years and announcing the talent to the stage within the BDO."

A further five officials are expected to be announced within the next week as the new-look BDO setup takes shape.
