The future of the BDO World Trophy has been safeguarded following an announcement that the tournament is to be held in Blackburn for the next three years.

The major ranking tournament, which has been an annual fixture since 2014, had been under serious threat due to logistical problems which consequently jeapoardised the BDO's broadcast deal with Eurosport.

However, the uncertainty surrounding the event has been ended with the news that the World Trophy will be staged at the King George’s Hall in Blackburn until 2021.

The men's field will feature 32 players competing for £34,000 in prize money, while the ladies tournament will consist of 16 leading players.

The tournament runs from August 30 to September 1 and will be shown live on Eurosport - who penned a deal in 2018 to broadcast the World Trophy, World Masters and Lakeside World Championship for the next three years.

The main event will be preceded by the qualifying rounds on August 29, which offer four places in the men's draw and two places in the women's competition.

Glen Durrant claimed the men's title in 2018 courtesy of a 10-7 win over Germany's Michael Unterbuchner in the final in Preston, while Fallon Sherrock saw off Lorraine Winstanley 6-3 to secure the women's crown.
