The 2019 BDO World Championship enters the men's Quarter-Final stage at Lakeside on Friday, while the final four battle it out for a place in the women's final.

Four of the top six seeds are left standing in the men's draw, as well as a multiple World Champion and a clutch of in-form hopefuls entering uncharted territory.

Reigning and two-time champion Glen Durrant survived a major scare against Scott Baker late on Thursday night as 'The Mod' reeled off three straight sets to force a decider before 'Duzza' held firm to edge through.

Durrant, who is aiming to become the first player since Eric Bristow in 1986 to win three consecutive BDO world titles, is now 12 games unbeaten on the famous Lakeside stage and returns to action in the evening session to face Kyle McKinstry.

BDO number 17 McKinstry is appearing in his first Lakeside Quarter-Final in only his second campaign after coming through nail-biting deciders against both Chris Landman and David Cameron.

The Northern Irishman, winner of the 2018 English Open, has a tournament average of 90 to Durrant's 95 and faces a tough task over the extended format if he is to end the reigning of the back-to-back Lakeside king.

Scott Waites, Lakeside Champion in 2013 and 2016, steps up his challenge for a third crown with a show-down against the tenacious Conan Whitehead in the afternoon session.

Former Grand Slam champion Waites is appearing in a fourth consecutive Lakeside Quarter-Final following convincing wins over Belgium's Jeffrey Van Egdom and Richard Veenstra of the Netherlands.

Whitehead has continued his superb progress at the home of world darts, having being knocked out in Round One in 2017 and Round Two last year.

He battled his way to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Welsh veteran Martin Phillips in Round One before pulling off a sensational 4-0 whitewash of top seed Mark McGeeney with a 96.2 average on Wednesday.

Scott Mitchell, winner here in 2015, faces a crunch clash with Welsh star Jim Williams in the final match of the evening.

A farmer by day, Mitchell is aiming to be the cream of the crop at Lakeside once again and is yet to drop a set in thrashing Oliver Ferenc and Krzysztof Kciuk en route to the Last Eight.

Incredibly, this will be only Mitchell's third Quarter-Final appearance in ten appearances at Lakeside, and he will be braced for a tough test from the number three seed.

Williams whitewashed compatriot Dean Reynolds 4-0 in the Last 16 and is eyeing back-to-back Quarter-Finals at Frimley Green, having notably squandered a 4-1 lead in defeat to eventual champion Durrant last time out.

The opening tie of the day sees German ace Michael Unterbuchner take on Dutch talent Willem Mandigers.

Unterbuchner is looking to emulate last year's dream debut run to the Semi-Finals, and the number five seed has gone from strength to strength over the course of the season, notably reaching the Quarter-Finals of the Grand Slam in November.

Mandigers, the number 13 seed, is appearing at this stage of the competition for the first time in five attempts after defeating Paul Hogan 3-0 and Wesley Harms 4-2 along the way.

The opening women's Semi-Final sees Japanese sensation Mikuru Suzuki take on in-form Maria O'Brien, with both bidding to reach their first World Championship final.

Soft-tip star Suzuki, who came through the play-off qualifier last October, stunned defending champion Lisa Ashton in Round One before defeating Sharon Prins in straight sets despite a much less impressive display.

The unseeded O'Brien knocked out Deta Hedman in her opener before edging out Fallon Sherrock in two last-leg deciders and will be quietly confident of extending her ground-breaking run.

The second Semi-Final sees friends become enemies as three-time World Champion Anastasia Dobromyslova plays number one seed Lorraine Winstanley.

Dobromyslova, who also featured in last month's PDC World Championship, has dropped just two legs in the tournament so far, brushing aside Laura Turner and Aileen de Graaf.

Winstanley is appearing in her first Lakeside Semi-Final since 2012 on the back of last-set wins over Casey Gallagher and ten-time champion Trina Gulliver MBE.

The action gets underway from 1pm GMT, with men's Quarter-Finals to be contested over the best of nine sets and women's Semi-Finals best of three sets. All sets are the best of five legs.
