World Matchplay Darts contenders recreate Baywatch opener (video)

World Matchplay sponsors Betfair are behind an iconic darts music video featuring Wayne Mardle, Colin Lloyd and Wes Newton

The 2012 World Matchplay Darts tournament has been a cracker so far and so is this music video based on the opening credits to Baywatch which previously featured Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff running along the beach.

However, it’s some of the top darts players that join a bevy of beauties this time around, with commentator Wayne Mardle joining in the fun on Blackpool promenade, while Wes Newton, Colin Lloyd and Dean Winstanley are some of the others to participate.

It’s a great video from sponsors Betfair who have kindly offered every Live-Darts.com reader a free £20 when they register a new account. A simple case of placing your first bet and, if it loses, you will get your stake back no problem.

The stars of the Betfair World Matchplay darts tournament swapped the oche for Blackpool beach promenade to send up the iconic opening sequence of the US TV smash hit Baywatch.

With the LA sun nowhere to be seen on the Lancashire coast, a number of top players including Colin Lloyd, Wes Newton and James Hubbard took time out from their busy schedules to film the startling beach scenes, complete with seaside donkey rides and pier games.

Sporting an ample chest wig, darts legend and Betfair Ambassador Wayne "Hawaii 501" Mardle was a natural in the role of the David "The Hoff" Hasslehoff. The video also features appearances from Dave Chisnall, Joe Cullen and Dean Winstanley.

And while it was more Lancashire hotpot than LA hotspot, there was no shortage of beach glamour as the players were joined by red swimsuit clad PDC walk-on girls in a typically British reimagining of the cult show's opening credits.

Wayne Mardle, who is providing daily tips and insight for Betting.Betfair as well as commentating on the tournament for Sky Sports, told Live-Darts.com: "I've been training hard for my role as "The Hoff" and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

"It's good to know I've got a second career in me if I choose to join the Blackpool Beach Patrol next summer."

Betfair's Alex Bake added: "The original show was all about, sun, sea, glamour and drama, so where better to recreate those scenes than Blackpool beach in this great British summer?

"Darts is all about the great personalities that play it, and we wanted to showcase the talent on stage at the Betfair World Matchplay."
