Raymond van Barneveld hopes to satisfy the Scotish section of the Barney Army with a win over in-form Kevin Painter on Thursday.
Kevin Painter is playing his first season in the Premier League Darts Championship and the Englishman has adapted well to life amongst the world's elite players. He has taken three wins from his first five matches and there is no shame in one of his losses, to Phil Taylor.
The Artist was a little disappointing when going down 8-6 to James Wade two weeks ago but a bit of inconsistency is to be expected from a Premier League rookie and he bounced back with an 8-5 win over Andy Hamilton in Brighton. Painter has generally looked composed and he appears to be confident in his darts, which has been illustrated by his higher than usual scoring this season.
On Thursday he takes on Raymond Van Barneveld and it is a bit of a surprise to see the Dutchman installed as an 8/13 favourite to win the match. 'Barney' was brilliant against Taylor in Belfast but was beaten and then followed up with a win over Hamilton but he wasn't great when losing to Wade last week and that is a worry for the Dutchman's backers.
In fact, his overall Premier League record of one win, two draws and two defeats suggest that he is worth opposing in Glasgow and odds of 5/2 on Painter making it four wins from six matches this season look far too big.
The match begins at 9.30pm and will be streamed live over the best of 14 legs from the SECC, Glasgow.
