Phil Taylor begins his bid for a fifth UK Open title as when he takes on former champion Roland Scholten in round three at the Reebok this evening.
Taylor comes into the event off the back of a rampant Premier League season in which he picked up first prize; he will no doubt be feeling refreshed and ready to mount another title challenge after recently retreating to his holiday home in Tenerife.
The UK Open has witnessed many of the Power's finest hours; no less than four titles, four nine darters and a world record average have been achieved in the event by Taylor since it began nine years ago.
He will be as determined as ever to add to that list this year as he looks to emphasise his reputation as the man to beat this year.
Despite a slide down the world rankings in recent years, Scholten remains a dangerous player and appears to have finally shaken off the shoulder injury that triggered his sharp downfall.
The Dutchman will hold fond memories of this venue having won the title back in 2004 and will be hoping to bring his trademark heavy scoring to the stage and cause a major upset tonight.
The duo have met 26 times in previous major competition and Taylor boasts a near impeccable record having taken 24 victories. Scholten is yet to defeat the Stoke ace despite earning two draws during past Premier League campaigns.
Their most notable encounter came in the Semi-Final of this event during its first staging in 2003, a game which saw Taylor run out an 11-4 winner en route to clinching the title.
The bookmakers make Taylor the huge odds-on favourite at 1/33, with Scholten priced at 9/1 for a shock victory with Bet365
The match gets underway at approximately 8.00pm GMT and will be streamed live over the best of seventeen legs from the Reebok Stadium, Bolton.
