The Flying Scotsman secured the Premier League title in May following a series of top displays, but will be looking to go one better by becoming champion of the world early next year.

He faces Jyhan Artut in his opening game, with the German thrower no stranger to the colossal Ally Pally stage. This will be his third consecutive appearance at darts's showcase event.

He knocked Wayne Mardle out in straight sets at this stage in 2010 but will have his work cut out if he is to do a similar job on the high-scoring Anderson tonight.

Anderson, who is well-fancied at 8/1 for the title, is a prolific 180 scorer, but often misses doubles. He finished runner-up in last year's event however and is likely to prove too strong for his opponent tonight.

The bookmakers make Anderson huge favourite to see off the German on the big stage tonight; he is priced at 1/20 with title sponsors Ladbrokes, as opposed to Artut who is the 8/1 outsider.

Their only previous meeting came in a Players Championship event in Artut's home nation back in 2009, in a game which saw Anderson prevail 6-1.

The match gets underway at 10pm and will be streamed live over the best of five sets from the Alexandra Palace, London.
