Gary Anderson returns to competitive action on Tuesday evening as he takes on former Lakeside runner-up Dean Winstanley in an eagerly awaited first round clash at the World Matchplay.
All eyes will be on the Flying Scotsman as he takes to the stage following a nightmare month which has seen him miss two European Tour events and a ProTour weekend due to a serious eye problem.
Anderson suffered a tear duct in his left eye but has returned to practice and is confident he will be back to his best in Blackpool.
He will need to be alert and in good form or could be subjected to an early exit for the second year running as he faces a man hungry for glory - Dean Winstanley.
The man known as 'Over the Top' has enjoyed the most success of all the players to come through Q School in January and is now gaining vital big stage experience.
The Yorkshireman has made a strong start to his PDC career and will use Anderson as a benchmark to follow in the coming years. His consistent performances on the ProTour and European Tour have done enough to earn him a place in this event and he will be hoping to make a huge impression in Blackpool this week.
Anderson is clear success story of a move from the BDO to the PDC paying dividends; the 41-year-old has won the Premier League title as well as finishing runner-up at the UK Open, Grand Slam and World Championship since making the switch in early 2009.
The duo are yet to meet in any major ranking competition but will go head-to-head in what could prove to be a crucial game in each of their respective careers.
The bookmakers make Anderson the odds-on favourite at 4/9 to progress, but under current circumstances value lies with Winstanley at 7/4 to cause an upset of sorts with Bet365
The match begins at around 9.00pm BST and will be streamed live over the best of 19 legs from the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
