The man from nearby Fleetwood produced a thoroughly professional display in thwarting the reigning World Youth Champion and denying him a scalp on his 20th birthday.

Two finishes of 91 in the final three legs saw Newton over the line as he finalises a second round grudge match against the methodical Justin Pipe.
