Kim Huybrechts is confident he can silence the critics and justify his surprise selection for the 2017 Betway Premier League.

The Belgian ace was handed a PDC wildcard for the sport's elite road-show event despite failing to surpass the Quarter-Finals of a televised singles tournament in 2016.

Huybrechts is embarking on his second stint in the ten-man invitational after making his debut in 2015 - when he was eliminated on Judgement Night after finishing bottom of the table.

The world number 14, however, claims he is a better player for that experience and is out to prove the doubters wrong by holding his own this time around.

"It's a great honour to play in the Premier League again," said Huybrechts. "I've got two more years of experience and that's very important.

"You learn a lot by winning and losing on these big stages and I think I'm a better player now for that experience.

"I was quite surprised," he added. "I didn't have a bad season but I didn't have a really good one either, it was kind of in the middle.

"There were a lot of names who had a chance of being in the Premier League, I want to prove they were correct to pick me."

The 31-year-old mustered just one win from his nine Premier League matches in 2015 despite a number of close-run contests and says he has identified the mistakes he made after taking time to analyse his performances.

"I've watched some of my games back from the first season and there was always that one game where I missed a chance with three darts at a double and that cost me the game almost every time.

"I know what went wrong and I'll be extra focused now not to let that happen again.

"You play the top players so many times but to play them in the Premier League is just a little but different.

"The first aim is to not get relegated, if that mission is completed then you can look at aiming for the top four."

Huybrechts continues to fly the flag for Belgium and hopes he can play an integral part in igniting a darting boom in his home country courtesy of a strong Premier League campaign.

He added: "Darts is getting better in Belgium, it's going to be live on TV there as well so I'm very proud.

"Maybe in the future they may even have one night of the Premier League there, who knows?

"We've got some good future stars coming through - I think Dimitri van den Bergh has a great chance to do well.

"To be the first Belgian in the Premier League is something that will always be remembered."
