The £82,100 non-televised tournament is the last before the cut off for the 2012 World Matchplay is made, with many facing a crucial weekend in Germany as they bid to make the summer showpiece event at the Winter Gardens.

The event features 63 of the world's top players in action, with 32 of the world's top 34 stars joined by 20 UK Qualifiers, eight European Qualifiers and four Home Nation Qualifiers who are certain to receive a strong backing from the partisan crowd.

Phil Taylor, winner of the second European Tour event last month, misses the trip as he chooses to turn his attention to preparing for the upcoming defence of his World Matchplay crown.

Reigning World Champion Adrian Lewis heads the list of big named entrants, as well as the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade and Simon Whitlock.

In form stars Justin Pipe, Dave Chisnall and Colin Lloyd will also look to do damage in the event along with a host of youth hotshots and continental stars.

Gary Anderson's on-going eye problems have forced him to withdraw from the tournament, meaning his scheduled first round opponent Scott Rand will receive a bye into round two.

The first round is split across two sessions on Friday, with play on two stages. Play from the second round onwards on Saturday and Sunday is focused on only the main stage.

The event runs from July 6-8, with all matches played over the best of 11 legs in front of a bumper crowd at the Maritim Hotel in Dusseldorf.
